Mike Pegram's Danthebluegrassman won't be making the trip to Texas for this Saturday's $500,000 Lone Star Derby (gr. III), trainer Bob Baffert said on Tuesday, because the condition that forced his being scratched from the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) had not improved to the trainer's satisfaction.

"He still has some problems behind," Baffert said. "There was tightness in the gluteal muscle after he worked a half-mile today. " Danthebluegrassman breezed a half-mile in :50.60 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday. He was scratched from last Saturday's Derby after tying up (suffering muscle cramps) after a light jog the morning of the race. Baffert said the Pioneering colt, winner of the Golden Gate Derby (gr. III) in January, should be able to return to training in a few days.

The surprise entry of Danthebluegrassman last Wednesday bumped Team Valor Stable and William Heiligbrodt's Windward Passage from the Kentucky Derby line-up, because the Pegram runner had earned slightly more in graded stakes purses than Windward Passage. The latter is expected to compete in the Lone Star Derby.

"It's a shame we can't make the trip," Baffert said. "Mike and I both like coming to Dallas, and the people at Lone Star really put on a good show. I hate to disappoint them."
