Danthebluegrassman Works Toward Lone Star Derby

Danthebluegrassman, now aiming for Saturday's Lone Star Derby.
Mike Pegram's Danthebluegrassman, a surprise entrant in Saturday's Kentucky Derby who was scratched on the morning of the race because of a muscle problem, showed no ill effects from the problem when he worked a half-mile in :50 3/5 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.

John Good, an assistant to trainer Bob Baffert, said the colt is being pointed toward the this Saturday's $500,000-added Lone Star Derby (gr. III).

Danthebluegrassman and Windward Passage, one of four horses excluded from the oversubscribed Kentucky Derby, are scheduled to ship to Texas on Wednesday.

Also scheduled to be on the flight are Federico Tesio Stakes winner Smoked Em; Florida Derby third-place finisher Peekskill; Houston Texan Juvenile winner Jeremiah Jack; Bay Monster, who dead-heated for third in the Arkansas Derby with Windward Passage; and recent 5 ½-length Keeneland allowance race winner Wisemen's Ferry.

Also expected for the 1 1/8-mile Lone Star Derby are California Derby winner Tracemark; Cappuchino, who was a neck behind Tracemark in the Cal Derby; and Arkansas Derby fifth Holdthehelm; Screen Idol, winner of Oaklawn Park's Northern Spur Stakes; Premediation, winner of the Borderland Derby at Sunland Park; and Sunland Park's Riley Allison Derby champ Forty Nine Deeds.
