Johannesburg and Castle Gandolfo, the respective eighth- and 12th-place finishers in Saturday's Kentucky Derby, left Churchill Downs early Sunday morning to be flown back to Ireland.
Travelling head lad Patrick Keating said he spoke with trainer Aidan O'Brien Sunday morning and related that the conditioner was happy to hear the horses came back well, though he offered no opinion of the race.
Keating said both colts ate up Saturday night and that he never saw the race.
"I was trying to get to the big screen to watch it, but it wasn't working," Keating said.
