Jerry Bailey wins his second consecutive stakes race, this time aboard Stylish in the Citgo Distaff Turf Mile.
Jerry Bailey won his second consecutive stakes on the Kentucky Derby Day card, winning the Citgo Distaff Turf Mile (gr. IIIT) aboard Stylish. In the previous race, he won the Three Chimneys Juvenile aboard Holiday Runner.

Stylish carried program number four, making four of six races at Churchill to be won by that number.

La Recherche ran well to finish second, having led for most of the race with No Deadline. When Stylish went by, La Recherche, ridden by Robby Albarado, was joined by several others, but hung tough on the hedge to get the nod for second by a head over Dianehill.

Stylish, owned by The Thoroughbred Corp. of Prince Ahmed Salman and trained by Bill Mott, covered the mile on turf in 1:35.72. The 4-year-old Thunder Gulch filly finished second at Churchill in the fall in the Mrs. Revere (gr. II), falling just a neck short.

Stylish returned $9, $4.60 and $3 while La Recherche paid $7.40 and $4.40. Dianehill, coupled with Zeta, was worth $2.80. (Chart, Equibase)
