Chalk players were happy with the results of the first three races at Churchill Downs on Derby Day, the parade of stakes races now ready to start.

The winners of the first three races on the card, Entrepreneur, Mr. John, and Neon Shadow returned, respectively, $4.80, $5 and $5.40.

The times were more realistic than a year ago, when track records were falling all over the place on a lightning fast strip. Entrepreneur covered six furlongs in 1:08.67 under Pat Day, Mr. John took 1:15.83 to go 6 1/2 furlongs with Donnie Meche, and Neon Shadow, ridden by Rene Douglas, went 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.74.

The skies over Louisville are partly cloudy, the sun shining through most of the time. A high of 70 is expected.
