Under rainy conditions, Philip Johnson trainee Storm Dream drew off to a 5 1/2 length win in the $140,000 Boiling Springs Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) Monday at Meadowlands. Ridden by Jean-Luc Samyn, Storm Dream completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:47.09 over good turf.
The win is Storm Dream's second career victory. Previously, she finished third in the Entenmanns Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) in May while still a maiden. The filly was then shipped to America where she won a Belmont Park maiden race by 14 1/4 lengths. She moved back to the stakes ranks for her next start, the Lake Placid Handicap (gr. IIT), in which she finished fourth.
Sent off at just over 3-1, Storm Dream returned $8.20, $4.20, and $3.60. The winning exacta, completed by betting favorite Watch, paid $23.60. Lady Dora finished third, followed by Life's an E Ticket, Miss Sara Toga, De Aar, Dare To Cope, Ever After, Minkie, Script, and Cedar Knolls.
Storm Dream (Catrail--Mamara Reef, by Salse) was bred in Ireland by M. Duffy. She earned $60,000 for Lael Stables with the win. (Chart,
