Stall Blankenese's BMW 130 Deutsches Derby (Ger-I) winner Samum took the lead after 1 1/4 miles and then held Catella, Fruits of Love, and Daliapour -- the second-, third- and fourth-place finishers, respectively -- at bay to win the Mercedes Benz Grosser Preis von Baden (Ger-I) by 2 1/2 lengths Sunday at Baden Baden, Germany. Over very soft ground, the 3-year-old colt completed the 1 1/2 miles in 2:38.95. Holding Court finished fifth of 11.

The win in the fourth leg of the International Emirates Racing Series pulls Samum into a tie with Montjeu, Dubai Millennium, and Chester House for the series lead. Both Dubai Millennium and Chester House have recently been retired.

Samum (Monsun--Sacarina, by Old Vic) remains undefeated in five starts. In addition to Sunday's win and the Derby win, he also has won the Grosser Mueller Brot-Preis (Ger-II) and the Preis des Gestuets Wiesenhof (Ger-III).
