The Oxley Foundation is contributing $100,000 to the Kentucky Derby Museum's endowment fund.
The contribution comes one year after the come-from-behind Kentucky Derby victory by Monarchos, who raced for John and Debby Oxley, co-chairs of the museum's 2002 gala, which is being held Saturday, April 27.
"The donation from the Oxley Foundation to our endowment will help to secure the future of the Kentucky Derby Museum, allowing us to educate all who come through our doors about the Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred racing," said executive director Lynn Ashton. "This will assist us in helping to build a fan base for the future of our industry."
John Oxley said: "It gives me great pleasure to sponsor this contribution to the Kentucky Derby Museum and in so doing against celebrate Monarchos 2001' Derby victory. There is nothing more important than preserving and presenting Kentucky Derby history and its tradition, and the Kentucky Derby Museum does it best."
The museum, located at gate 1 of Churchill Downs, is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sundays. It is closed to the public on Oaks and Derby days. Saturday's gala begins at 7 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $375 per person and can be obtained by calling the museum at 502 637-1111, extension 228.
