Fairplex Park and Santa Anita Park are in negotiation to bring the Los Angeles County Fair's 17-day end-of-summer race meeting to Santa Anita, a Magna Entertainment Corporation official told stockholders at its annual meeting April 18.

"In the next couple of weeks we'll be able to announce a decision on whether those dates will be at Fairplex or Santa Anita," said Jack Liebau, MEC's director of California racing, responding to a question from a stockholder. "I can't say anything more at this time."

Fairplex officials have been exploring the possibility of running their meet at an another track in a landlord-tenant arrangement since late last year.

The county fair meeting runs September 13 to 29, 2002.

Both the Los Angeles County Fair Board of Directors and the California Horse Racing Board would have to approve any shift in venue, officials said.
