Displaying a turnaround in form, Felix Monserrate's Zippy Chippy led all the way before being caught at the wire to finish second in a maiden special weight race at Northampton Fair, extending his winless streak to 87 races.

By leading throughout the distance of about five furlongs, the 9-year-old gelding sent off as the 13-10 second choice in the seven-horse field showed a reversal of form from a year ago when he was banned by stewards at Finger Lakes due to his tardy starts. The winner, Black Rifle, returned $4.40 as the 6-5 favorite. The stewards disallowed a claim of foul by Zippy's rider against the winner.

Zippy Chippy, who lost a 40-yard race against a minor league baseball player last month, has gained national attention as a result of his effort in futility. (More, Boston Herald)
