Grade II Winner Queenie Belle Retired
Gary Seidler's multiple graded stakes winner Queenie Belle has been retired from racing due to a slight muscle injury, according to trainer Ben Cecil."It was just a muscle strain, we could have brought her back but she wouldn't have been ready until Del Mar," Cecil said. The 5-year-old California-bred daughter of Bertrando will be bred to Fusaichi Pegasus in Kentucky, then return to California to foal to take advantage of the California-bred breeding program.Queenie Belle won six of 22 career races and earned $624,790. She won three stakes races, including the Lady's Secret Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) and the Princess Stakes (gr. II). In her last start, she finished fifth in the Santa Maria Handicap (gr. I). She finished second or third in three additional grade II stakes."It leaves a bit of a hole in the barn," Cecil said, "but she certainly doesn't owe us a thing"
