Thornton's and Churchill Announce Infield Item Prices

Bottled water bought in the Churchill Downs infield on Oaks and Derby Day will cost $1.25, one penny less than the same product at Thornton's stores in greater Louisville. That and prices for other products were announced jointly on Tuesday by officials from Churchill and Thornton's Quick Café and Market.

New security measures this year prompted Churchill Downs to limit the types of things that can be brought into the infield for the 2002 runnings of the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and Derby (gr. I). For example, in past years, coolers, bottles of suntan lotion, bottled water, and bottled soft drinks could be brought to the track. This year, they will not be allowed.

To compensate, two Thornton's stores will operate in the infield that weekend. Here's a sampling of other prices and their market comparisons:
