Jockey Corey Nakatani riding Silic (12) to victory in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile.
The
Racing Post reports that 1999 Breeders' Cup Mile winner Silic has suffered a recurrence of an old foot injury that will preclude him from defending his crown at Churchill Downs in November.
"He's out of the Breeders' Cup," said trainer Julio Canani. "It's the same thing he did at Hollywood Park before the Shoemaker Handicap. He's got bad feet."
According to the
Post, Canani will make a decision on the horse's future within the next two weeks. Silic has earned more than $1.4 million while winning eight of 15 starts.
