Pin Oak Stable's homebred See How She Runs held off even-money favorite Lake Lady to win Friday's $200,000 Fantasy Stakes (gr. II) at Oaklawn Park.
Under Donald Pettinger, the Donnie K. Von Hemel trainee completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.80 on a fast track, finishing three-quarters of a length ahead of Lake Lady. With the win, See How She Runs remains unbeaten from four career starts, all at Oaklawn Park.
"The filly came out of the race well, and she'll go to Lone Star Park with the rest of our horses on Sunday," Von Hemel said. "I don't know where she'll run next, but she would have to be supplemented (for $25,000) for the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I)."
Chamrousse rallied from fifth to finish third, a neck behind the runner-up, with Traci's Wild closing from far back to finish fourth. Fun House and pacesetter General Jeanne completed the order of finish.
General Jeanne set blazing fractions of :22.60 and :46.07 while pressed by See How She Runs, with Lake Lady about two lengths from the lead. See How She Runs held a one-length lead after six furlongs run in 1:11.40 and built a 1-1/2 length lead at the stretch call en route to the win.
The third wagering choice returned $9.40, $3.80, and $2.60 for the win and topped a $20.60 exacta. Lake Lady paid $2.80 and $2.20, with Chamrousse paying $2.40 to show.
Kentucky-bred See How She Runs is a 3-year-old daughter of Maria's Mon out of Beau Cougar (by Cougar II), making her a half-sister of Laurel Turf Cup Stakes (gr. IIIT) winner Hasten to Add. (Chart, Equibase
