Eight three-year-old fillies are set to contest Sunday's $100,000 added Comely (gr. III) over a mile at Aqueduct. Michael Tabor's Bella Bellucci is the standout in the field, and a solid effort will send her straight to the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) at Churchill Downs May 3.
Bella Bellucci broke her maiden at Belmont at first asking last year by six lengths. She then took the Astarita (gr. II) at the same track next out. She was beaten by Tempera in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) in October. She won her comeback effort last month at Santa Anita in the Santa Paula.
Fog City Stable's Spring Meadow finished third to Bella Bellucci in the Santa Paula, beaten less than a length. The daughter of Meadowlake has faced competition such as You and Habibti in the Las Virgenes (gr. I), and figures as second choice in the Comely.
The field for the Comely, in post position order with jockeys and weights:
Vesta (Shaun Bridgmohan, 116)
Salem Willow (Edgar Prado, 116)
Fresh Tracks (Robbie Davis, 116)
Short Note (Norberto Arroyo Jr., 116)
Bella Bellucci (Gray Stevens, 122)
Spring Meadow (Javier Castellano, 116)
Nonsuch Bay (John Velazquez, 116)
