With Santa Anita switching to twilight racing on Friday and a two-day pick six carryover of $462,042, handicappers will have a couple of extra hours to contemplate their wagers.

For the second straight day at Santa Anita, no bettor picked all six legs of Thursday's pick six correctly. Two favorites won legs of the wager Thursday, but Crimson Policy's win at odds of nearly 26-1 in the second leg of the wager eliminated many tickets. Other high-priced winners in Thursday were Regiment ($19.40) in the first leg and Aware ($16.60) in the feature race of the day.

Regiment's win came in a race in which recent Baldwin Stakes (gr. IIIT) winner Shuffling Kid was claimed for $80,000. Following his turf stakes win, Shuffling Kid finished fifth in the listed San Pedro Stakes on the main track. Trainer Vladimir Cerin claimed the gelding, who went off as the 6-5 favorite in Thursday's turf dash, for new owners David and Holly Wilson.

In the feature, Aware, ridden by Brice Blanc, moved in front in midstretch and held off Mont Saint Michel to win the $57,000 turf race for the horse's first victory in almost four years.

Carrying 118 pounds in the 1 1/4-mile race for older horses, Aware finished a half-length in front of Mont Saint Michel to snap an 0-for-8 string in the United States.

An English-bred 7-year-old, Aware was timed in 2:01 and paid $16.60, $6 and $4.40. Mont Saint Michel, paid $5.40 and $4.20. Lammas, ridden by Pat Valenzuela and also carrying 118, returned $6.60 for show.

The 7-5 favorite, Eyes Wide Open, finished fourth.

The win was the second in 14 career starts for Aware, who has finished second five times and third twice. Before winning the optional claiming race at Santa Anita, Aware's last victory was in a turf event in France in May of 1998.

Wednesday's wagering left a carryover of $114,773 heading into Thursday's pick six.

First post Friday is 3 p.m. (PDT). The pick six wager will be comprised of races four through nine.
