The "Thoroughbred vs. Quarter Horse Challenge," July 13 at Calder Race Course will double in value from last year, to $50,000.
The four-furlong (880 yard) event is for 3-year-olds and up and is an invitational race. It will pit four Thoroughbreds selected by the Calder racing secretary against four Quarter Horses selected by the American Quarter Horse Association. Entries close July 10.
Last year's title and bragging rights were won by the Thoroughbred Diamond Studs in :46.21. Allen Lewis' King Rick Rack, a gelded son of Gone To The Man, finished second by a head to lead the Quarter Horse contingent.
