As the road to the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) gets shorter, the telecasts of premier 3-year-old Thoroughbred racing heats up in prep races televised on "Citgo Racing to the Kentucky Derby," the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA)-produced series on the ESPN networks.
This week features live coverage of New York's ultimate Derby prep, the $750,000 Wood Memorial Stakes (gr. I) from Aqueduct Race Track April 13. The Wood will air from 3:30-4:30 p.m. (ET) on ESPN.
The one-hour ESPN telecast of the Wood Memorial kicks off over two hours of two-network horseracing coverage. It will be followed by "NTRA Road to the Kentucky Derby on NBC," airing from 4:30-6:00 p.m. (ET), which will present live coverage of the, $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) from Keeneland in Lexington, Ky, as well as recap the Derby prep season and preview what to expect in the 128th Run for the Roses.
Hosting Saturday's ESPN telecast will be Jeff Medders, joined by Randy Moss and Jeannine Edwards.
Upcoming ESPN telecasts include the April 20 Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland, which will be broadcast from 6-7 p.m. Also on that day, the Federico Tesio Stakes will originate from Pimlico.
