The Arkansas Racing Commission Saturday approved Oaklawn Park's schedule request for 2003. The 55-day live meet will begin on Jan. 24 and end April 12.

The 2003 dates mirror Oaklawn's successful 2002 schedule with a Wednesday through Sunday racing week.

"This has been a very successful season," Eric Jackson, Oaklawn's general manager, told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. "It seems to have worked for all parties, and we would not want to change a winning formula."

The Arkansas track has increased purses on repeated occasions this meet. Attendance on Saturday, with the grade I Oaklawn and Apple Blossom Handicaps sharing top billing, was 31,046 with a total handle of $9.2 million for the 12-race program.
