John Little Upsets Excelsior Field

John Little edged Windsor Castle by a neck Saturday in the 90th running of the $200,000 Excelsior Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct.

John Little, ridden by Norberto Arroyo Jr. and carrying 111 pounds, ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.25 on the fast track, and paid $15, $6.80, and $4.10. Windsor Castle returned $5.20 and $3.60 and completed the $72 exacta, and Ground Storm paid $2.60 to show. The favorite, Evening Attire, was fourth after showing the way to the far turn. Longshots Yankee Doodle Boy and Pleasant Divorce completed the order of finish.

John Little, owned, trained and bred by Deborah Bodner, earned $120,000 for his second victory in four starts this year. The New Jersey-bred son of Blushing John earned his first career stakes win while improving his career mark to seven wins from 15 starts. (Chart, Equibase)
