Jan Siegel, who raced a number of prominent horses with her husband, Mace, and their daughter, Samantha, died April 4 after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to Daily Racing Form. A Beverly Hills resident, she was 69.
The Siegels campaigned such accomplished stars as grade I winners Urbane, Miss Iron Smoke, Hedonist, I Ain't Bluffing, and I Believe in You. Urbane captured the 1995 Ashland Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland and the John A. Morris Handicap (gr. I) the following year at Saratoga. Miss Iron Smoke also was a grade I winner at the Spa. The trio of Hedonist, I Ain't Bluffing, and I Believe in You were grade I winners in California.
A funeral service is scheduled for April 9 at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills.
