Fort Erie Increasing Purses 8.4 Percent

Revenue from slot machines is expected to increase Fort Erie Race Track's average daily purse distribution by 8.4 percent for this year's meet beginning April 26.

The Ontario, Canada, racetrack across the border from Buffalo, N.Y., is projecting an average of $185,000 (U.S. $170,672) for its 118-day meet, up from $170,672 (U.S. $110,084) last year. Claiming races under $20,000 will be increased by 8 percent while claiming and allowance races over $20,000 will be increased by 12 percent.

More than 800 horses are already on the grounds and the track expects to have all 1,250 stalls filled by opening day.
