Equality Heads Nine in Aventura Stakes

Right after Gulfstream Park simulcasts the Illinois Derby (gr. II) Saturday, it will run its own Kentucky Derby (gr. I) prep, the Aventura Stakes.Equality, winner of the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III), heads a field of nine entered in the Aventura, a $250,000 race run at 1 1/16 miles. The race is the 12th on the Gulfstream card, with a 5:56 p.m. (E.T.) scheduled post. All entrants carry 122 pounds.To be ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Pin Oak Farm's Equality drew the number two post. He is trained by Graham Motion.Glen Hill Farm's homebred Major Focus finished fourth in his last start, but that was a stakes on the turf at Tampa Bay. Prior to that, he won that track's Pasco Stakes. Trained by Tom Proctor, he will be ridden by veteran Earlie Fires.Don Dizney's Raymond Springs won his first two starts, then finished third in the Sam Davis at Tampa. He will be ridden by Eduardo Nunez for trainer Kathleen O'Connell.Charioteer finished fourth in the Louisiana Derby (gr. III) in his last year. Owned by Peachtree Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, Eibar Coa has the mount.The field, in post position order: Strive, Cornelio Velasquez Equality, Ramon Dominguez Legislator, Mike McCarthy Major Focus, Earlie Fires Raymond Springs, Eduardo Nunez Charioteer, Eibar Coa Marasca, Chris DeCarlo Mountain Forum, Joe Bravo Say No Maw, Julio Garcia
