Trainer Richard Jackson on Wednesday declared Remington Rock a non-starter for Saturday's Oaklawn Handicap (gr. I) due to sickness. The defection of Remington Rock from Oaklawn Park's Saturday co-feature leaves an expected field of eight for the 1 1/8-mile race.
Half of the projected field arrived at Oaklawn Wednesday. Bowman's Band, Graeme Hall, and This Fleet Is Due flew from Miami to Louisville, and then proceeded on to Arkansas with Dollar Bill. Also on the flight were grade I Apple Blossom-bound Miss Linda and Spanish Glitter, who is to run in Sunday's Carousel. The same plane will return from California Thursday with Affluent, Azeri, Spain, and Verruma.
The projected field for the Oaklawn Handicap is: Mr Ross, 118 pounds, Don Pettinger; Kudos, 117, Eddie Delahoussaye; Crafty Shaw, 116, James Lopez; Graeme Hall, 115, John Velazquez; Dollar Bill, 114, Jorge Chavez; Bowman's Band, 113, Edgar Prado; Secret Romeo, 112, Terry Houghton, and This Fleet Is Due, 111, Pat Day.
The Apple Blossom is expected to include: Affluent, 118, Eddie Delahoussaye; Azeri, 117, Mike Smith; Miss Linda, 118, Richard Migliore; Spain, 117, Pat Day; Fleet Renee, 117, John Velazquez, and Verruma, 113, Garrett Gomez.
Fleet Renee worked four furlongs at Oaklawn Wednesday, getting the distance in :51 3/5 for trainer Michael Dickinson.
