Champion Appointed Youbet President

Youbet.com has appointed Charles Champion as its new president and chief operating officer effective immediately.
''We are very fortunate to have recruited a person of Chuck's ability and accomplishment to our Company,'' said David M. Marshall, chairman and chief executive officer. ''The leadership and entrepreneurial vision that Chuck has demonstrated over his 25 year career will serve us extremely well in our plans to grow our business and expand our markets.''
Champion replaces Ron Luniewski as COO. Luniewski has resigned from Youbet.com and intends to joint Magna Entertainment where he will run the company's XpressBet interactive wagering service. Phillip Hermann, who had been appointed president during the recent transition period during which Marshall took over as chairman and CEO, has been appointed executive vice president and will continue serving as Youbet.com's chief financial officer.
Prior to joining Youbet.com, Champion was the president and publisher of Access Magazine, an Internet publication distributed in the top 50 Internet wired markets to a readership of over 12 million. At Access Magazine, he was responsible for increasing the subscription base by nearly three-fold in two-year period. Champion also was senior vice president of circulation and marketing for Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc. (a Knight Ridder company), and has held top executive positions with The Chicago Sun-Times
, The Orange County Register
and Daily News
of Los Angeles. His operational background includes extensive expertise in strategic planning, sales and marketing, branding, personnel management, and finance.
Active in his communities, Champion has served on numerous boards and councils representing business and commerce, health, youth activities and the arts. He is a native of New Jersey and was raised in Los Angeles.
