Mayakovsky, winning the Gotham Stakes, will race next in the April 6 Santa Anita Derby.
Gotham Stakes (gr. III) winner Maykovsky is definite for the April 6 Santa Anita Derby (gr. I), trainer Patrick Biancone said Saturday.
"We're going to run," the conditioner said. "He'll work a half-mile here on Tuesday, weather permitting, and we hope to decide on a rider today."
Edgar Prado, the only jockey yet to ride Mayakovsky in a race, is committed to ride Bowman's Band in the same day's Oaklawn Handicap.
Trainer Bobby Frankel said Royal Gem has a quarter crack in his right fore and will skip the race, which would have been his main track debut. The son of Royal Academy is undefeated from two starts on turf.
Likely Santa Anita Derby entrant Tracemark worked five furlongs in 1:02 1/5 on a fast Hollywood Park strip, with possible starter Fonz's getting the same distance in 1:00.
"He went a little slower than I wanted," trainer Craig Dollase said of Tracemark. "But he went nicely and came out of it good. We're still up in the air on a rider."
San Felipe Stakes (gr. II) winner Medaglia d'Oro will work Sunday at Hollywood Park in preparation for the April 13 Wood Memorial (gr. I), in which he'll be ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr.
Horses listed as probable for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby are: Came Home, Chris McCarron; Mayakovsky, no rider; Danthebluegrassman, David Flores; Easy Grades, Gary Stevens; Jack's Silver, no rider; Lusty Latin, Glenn Corbett; Tracemark, no rider; and U S S Tinosa, Kent Desormeaux. Fonz's and Holdthehelm are listed as possible, with the latter more likely for the Arkansas Derby (gr. II).
