Texan James "Mattress Mac" McIngvale went to $110,000 to acquire a Jade Hunter--Larrikin (by Slew o' Gold) colt as the top-priced offering during Tuesday's Texas sale of 2-year-olds in training conducted by Fasig-Tipton. The colt was consigned by Paul Sharp, agent.
Fasig-Tipton reported the numbers declined in every category except median price and buybacks. Overall, 175 juveniles were sold Tuesday for a total of $3,727,100. The average price of $21,269 was down 8.9% from last year's average of $23,290 when 193 horses grossed $4,494,100. This year's median price was $15,000, up from the $14,000 figure in 2001.
The 159 horses that did not change hands represented 47.6% of the total 374 horses through the ring. At last year's two-day sale, the 153 buy-backs represented 44% of those through the ring.
