California Stallion Country Light Dead

Country Light was euthanized March 11 following a breeding accident at Andreas and Marilyn Hauke's Double G Ranch near Pinon Hills, Calif. Owned by Diana Leavengood Blanco, the 19-year-old son of Majestic Light fractured his femur while covering Ack Ack Lil, dam of Country Light's stakes-placed son Lil' Country.

Country Light, who was produced from the Hoist the Flag mare Harbor Flag, raced as a homebred for Seth Hancock's Cherry Valley Farm and William Haggin Perry's The Gamely Corp. He won a division of the Tyro Stakes at two and took the Louisiana Derby (gr. III) in March of the following year, but was retired midway through his 3-year-old season with a problem hock. He won four of six races and earned $196,349.

Country Light entered stud in at E.P. Taylor's Windfields Stud in Canada as the property of the farm and Bob Anderson's Anderson Farms. While there, he sired Canadian champion Bolulight. Country Light stood at several other farms before Blanco bought him for the 2001 breeding season. He sired a total of eight stakes winners.
