Caller One, winner of the Los Angeles Handicap last year, defended his title in the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
Caller One won the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) for the second straight year Saturday night at Nad Al Sheba as American-based horse swept the top finishing positions. David and Rita Milch's Echo Eddie finished a head back in second, 3 1/2 lengths ahead of 4-year-old filly Xtra Heat. Last year's runner-up Men's Exclusive finished fourth, with Bonapaw sixth in the 13-horse field.
Caller One completed the six furlongs in 1:09.91 under Gary Stevens, who previously piloted Grey Memo to a victory in the Godolphin Mile and finished second aboard Total Impact in the UAE Derby.
The win marks the 10th in 19 starts for Caller One, whose most recent win prior to Saturday night came in the Los Angeles Handicap (gr. III) last May in his first race back from last year's trip to Dubai. James Chapman trains the 5-year-old Phone Trick gelding for owners Carolyn Chapman and Theresa McArthur.
