Belmont Fall Championship Meet Opens Sept. 5

The Belmont Park fall championship meet is set to open Sept. 5 and run for 38 days through Oct. 26.
 
TVG Super Saturday includes five grade I races Sept. 27 and serves as the centerpiece of the meet's enhanced stakes schedule worth $11 million.
 
Featuring six graded stakes overall, TVG Super Saturday will feature a Tom Durkin bobblehead giveaway and autograph signing by the legendary and now-retired track announcer, a food truck festival, and a "Family Fun Day" filled with activities for fans of all ages.
 
TVG Super Saturday is anchored by the 96th edition of the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) at 1 1/4 miles. Other grade I races on the card are the $600,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, the $600,000 Flower Bowl for turf fillies and mares, the $400,000 Beldame for fillies and mares, and the $400,000 Vosburgh for sprinters, as well as the$400,000 Kelso Handicap (gr. II).
 
The Vosburgh, Flower Bowl, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, and Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational are all Breeders' Cup Challenge "Win and You're In" events, with the winners earning a fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup on Oct. 31-Nov. 31 at Santa Anita Park.
 
The following Saturday, Oct. 4, juveniles will take center stage at Belmont, with the Champagne and Frizette (both gr. I) serving as "Win and You're In" springboards to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies.
 
New York Showcase Day returns Oct. 18 with a celebration of all things New York, including eight stakes races restricted to state-breds, with purses totaling $1.75 million.
 
Graded stakes action begins Sept. 13 with a pair of turf races for fillies and mares: the $500,000 Sands Point (gr. II) at 1 1/8 miles and the $200,000 Noble Damsel (gr. III) at a mile.
 
With live racing generally conducted Wednesdays through Sundays, first post is 1:05 p.m. EDT in September, and 12:50 p.m. beginning Oct.1.
