Voo Doo Dance, second dam of grade I winner A P Valentine, was euthanized March 10 because of complications from foaling a Sky Classic colt the day before for James Moran. The colt was placed on a nurse mare at Moran's Elk Manor Farm in North East, Md.
Bred by Thomas Mellon Evans, Voo Doo Dance (Stage Door Johnny--Witch Dance, by Northern Dancer) won three grass stakes on the way to earning $166,574. Her offspring include stakes winner Pulling Punches, plus stakes-placed Twenty Eight Carat and Dancer Man.
Twenty Eight Carat, dam of A P Valentine, was purchased for $4 million by Moran's mother, Elizabeth Moran, in the name of her Brushwood Stable at the 2001 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Twenty Eight Carat was in foal to Fusaichi Pegasus. She also is dam of stakes winner Summer Bet. A P Valentine, who entered stud this year at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky., has been retired from stallion duty because of fertility problems.
Voo Doo Dance's other daughters include stakes producers Erzulie Freda and Devil's Sweetheart.
