Longtime Florida Linemaker Chuck Streva Dies

Chuck Streva, a longtime chart-caller and linemaker at South Florida tracks, passed away the morning of Aug. 15 at Miami’s Baptist Hospital following a long illness.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday evening, Aug. 17, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Streva, 56, was widely respected for his expertise as the official Equibase chart caller at both Gulfstream Park and Calder Casino & Race Course, as well as the official linemaker during his long tenures at the two racetracks.

He was also a popular public handicapper with his daily selections carried in the Miami Herald.

Streva grew up in a racing family that included his late grandfather Dave Wilson, a legendary newspaper handicapper and columnist in New England and Florida. His uncle, Jack Wilson, a former Daily Racing Form supervisor of track and field operations, called the official charts for the Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, and sons, Chris and Michael.
