Elisabeth Jerkens, a longtime Thoroughbred owner and breeder who was married to Hall of Fame trainer H. Allen Jerkens since 1987, died the morning of Aug. 3 in South Florida at the age of 86.

The cause of death was heart failure.

She campaigned her horses under the name of Hardwicke Stables. Among her homebreds were the stakes-winning filly Becky's Flute. She also bred and campaigned the Devil His Due gelding Spite the Devil, a multiple stakes winner trained by her husband as was Devil His Due, who won nearly $4 million during his racing career.

Her most recent winner was Horsens, who took a maiden race at Gulfstream Park May 24.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete Sunday.
