She's a Tiger

She's a Tiger, last year's champion 2-year-old filly, has been retired from racing and will be offered for sale this fall at the Fasig-Tipton November sale.

Bred in Kentucky by Dr. Rodney Orr, She's a Tiger is by Tale of the Cat  Shandra Smiles, by Cahill Road, and is a half sister to multiple grade I winner Smiling Tiger  .

"She's a grade I winner, a champion, and should be highly sought after," said John Sikura of Hill 'n' Dale Farms near Lexington, where the filly will be sent. "She was precocious, has the pedigree, and had performance. She was a great thrill for the partnership."

She's a Tiger was trained by Jeff Bonde for Mark Dedomenico, Allen Aldrich, Lisa Hernandez, Stuart Downey, and Phil Lebherz. Last year at 2 she was 3-3-0 in six starts and earned $725,650. In her lone start this season she was seventh in the Eight Belles Stakes (gr. III) on Kentucky Oaks Day at Churchill Downs.

Consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent, to the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale, She's a Tiger sold to Mersad Metanovic Bloodstock for $150,000. She broke her maiden at first asking by nine lengths last June going five furlongs at Pleasanton in Northern California.

Shipped south she went wire to wire in the six-furlong Landaluce Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park and then was caught late by Concave in the 6 1/2-furlong Sorrento Stakes (gr. II) at Del Mar. A front-running winner of the seven-furlong Del Mar Debutante Stakes (gr. I) in late August, she then dropped a photo finish in the two-turn Chandelier Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita.

Sent off at 5-1 in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) she went wire to wire but was disqualified and placed second behind Ria Antonia for bearing out in the stretch. The defeat didn't cost her many votes with Eclipse Award voters who named her the best of her generation at year's end.

She's a Tiger is the seventh foal from the stakes-winning Shandra Smiles. Shandra Smiles' third foal is Smiling Tiger, a winner of the Bing Crosby Stakes (gr. I), Triple Bend Handicap (gr. I), and Ancient Title Stakes (gr. I) winner. The top-line sprinter was third in the 2012 Xpressbet Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). He stood his first year at stud in 2014 at Premier Thoroughbreds near Oakdale, Calif., for a fee of $5,000.

Smiling Tiger is by Hold That Tiger, a son of Storm Cat. She's a Tiger is by Tale of the Cat, another son of Storm Cat. Tale of the Cat is the sire of 103 stakes winners including Stopchargingmaria, winner of the July 20 TVG C.C.A. Oaks (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course and Enchanting Lady, winner of this year's Landaluce at Santa Anita Park.
