Preston Stables' Flashy American will take another run at the $200,000 Shuvee Handicap (gr. III) at Saratoga Race Course July 27, wheeling back after a third-place finish in the Delaware Handicap (gr. I) two weeks earlier.
The 5-year-old Flashy Bull mare was second by a length to Authenticity in the 2013 edition of the Shuvee, her graded stakes debut, and followed that effort for trainer Ken McPeek with back-to-back victories in the Alada Stakes at the Spa and in the Locust Grove at Churchill Downs.
Flashy American has hit the board in her past three starts, taking home her first graded victory in the Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) at Hawthorne Race Course in April. She ran second in the Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill in June, and was edged by Princess of Sylmar for second in the 1 1/4-mile Del 'Cap behind winner Belle Gallantey.
Julien Leparoux gets the mount aboard the 118-pound highweight; the duo breaks from post 2 in a field of seven older fillies and mares.
Still seeking her first win of 2014 is Repole Stable's Unlimited Budget, winner of the 2013 Demoiselle Stakes (gr. II), Rachel Alexandra Stakes (gr. III), and Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) before a third in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) last year.
This season, the 4-year-old Street Sense filly has faltered for trainer Todd Pletcher, coming closest to victory when finishing second by three-quarters of a length in the March 29 Rampart Stakes (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park behind Gamay Noir. Last time out, Unlimited Budget was ninth in the June 7 Longines Just a Game Stakes (gr. IT) going a mile on the Belmont lawn in her turf debut.
Javier Castellano rides daughter of Street Sense from post 4 as part of a 117-pound assignment in her return to dirt.
Hot Stones, winner of the June 21 Bed o' Roses Handicap (gr. III) at Belmont last out, looks to continue her winning ways. The 4-year-old New York-bred stretches out to the 1 1/8-mile distance in the Shuvee after winning the seven-furlong Bed o' Roses by a closing nose in her first graded outing. A daughter of Bustin Stones , she races for Roddy Valente, Charles Casale, and Darlene Bilinski.
Godolphin Racing has an intriguing contender in Antipathy, third in the June 7 Ogden Phipps (gr. I) while beaten by a neck at 30-1. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin took the 4-year-old A.P. Indy filly to her first graded stakes in the Phipps and now drops her down in search of a first graded win.
Anne and Jerry Moss also have a contender who could figure in Stanwyck, winner of the Turnback the Alarm Handicap (gr. III) at Belmont last fall. The 5-year-old daughter of Empire Maker has been well-rested since the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) on April 11. She was third in that event off back-to-back thirds in the Santa Margarita Stakes (gr. I) and the Santa Maria Stakes (gr. II), both at Santa Anita Park for trainer John Shirreffs at the beginning of the year.
