Following Harlan's Holiday's win in Saturday's Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park, bettors took the plunge on the Ohio-bred son of Harlan in round two of this year's Kentucky Derby future wager. Just prior to the race, Harlan's Holiday was listed at 10-1 but dropped quickly to 8-1 following the race and stands as the 6-1 favorite just ahead of Johannesburg (7-1) at the close of the third day of wagering.
Also taking action in the aftermath of the race was the mutuel field consisting of all 3-year-olds except for the 23 individual betting interests. Prior to the race, the field was listed at 10-1 -– down from 13-1 at the beginning of the day –- but closed Saturday as the 8-1 co-third choice with Siphonic.
Blue Burner, 25-1 just before finishing second in the Florida Derby, dropped to 22-1 at the close of Saturday's betting. Odds on Florida Derby also-rans Booklet, High Star, and Nokoma drifted up slightly following the race.
Repent is currently the fifth choice at 9-1, followed by Saarland (12-1), Came Home (12-1), and Booklet (16-1).
$120,660 was wagered Saturday, bringing the cumulative handle for pool two to $193,674.
Pool two of the wager concludes Sunday.
