Hong Kong Squall, by Summer Squall, Summer Bird died of colic at age 7 last December in Japan, where stood the 2013 season at the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association farm in Hokkaido following his purchase by the organization in late 2012. Summer Bird entered stud in 2011 at Pauls Mill farm near Versailles, Ky., and then moved to WinStar Farm, also near Versailles, for 2012.
Summer Bird was champion 3-year-old male of 2009 after winning the Belmont Stakes (gr. I), Travers Stakes (gr. I) and Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I). He compiled a 4-1-1 record from nine career starts and earned $2,323,040. He has 93 2-year-olds in his first crop.
