Jockey Joy Scott, severely injured in an incident at Los Alamitos on Jan. 19, 2001, galloped her first horse since the spill Friday morning at Santa Anita.
Scott has undergone three operations since the spill, but is mentally ready to return to racing. She hopes to be ready to race next week.
"I'm tired of not being a 'normal' person," said Scott. "I've had two major, and one minor surgery. I had screws removed from my ankle last Friday, and now, I'm just happy to be here. I love this racetrack, and the people here."
Scott said the bright spot in the enforced layoff was being able to spend time with her 14-year-old son, Jesse.
