Sea The Stars
, whose first crop includes 2014 Investec Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) winner Taghrooda
, will be available to cover a limited book of mares to Southern Hemisphere time from his Irish base, the Aga Khan Studs announced.
The covering fee at Gilltown Stud will be €85,000 ($144,697 in United States funds) and is nonrefundable at 45 days of gestation, and €8,500 ($14,469) will be offered to breeders toward expenses.
"There has been considerable interest in Sea The Stars from many Southern Hemisphere breeders ever since he retired to stud, and this is a great opportunity to use a wonderful racehorse with an impeccable pedigree who has made such an outstanding start to his stud career," said Pat Downes, manager of the Aga Khan Studs in Ireland.
Sea The Stars has five group winners among 13 stakes performers from two crops of racing. In addition to Taghrooda, he also is the sire of Prix du Jockey-Club (Fr-I, French Derby) runner-up Shamkiyr
and Prix Saint-Alary (Fr-I) second Vazira
Sea The Stars, a Cape Cross half brother to leading European sire Galileo, was beaten just once in nine lifetime starts. He went undefeated in six starts as a 3-year-old in 2009 while running exclusively in group I company, including both the Stanjames.com 2,000 Guineas (Eng-I) at Newmarket and the Investec Derby (Eng-I) at Epsom Downs. He concluded his career with a win in that season's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) to secure Cartier Awards as champion 3-year-old male and Horse of the Year.
