Fair Grounds to Host Benefit for Randy Romero

Fair Grounds will host a benefit dinner on Wednesday to raise money for retired jockey Randy Romero's kidney transplant surgery.

The benefit dinner of boiled crawfish and fried fish will be held in the paddock beginning at 5.30 p.m. Tickets are $40 and will be available at the gift shop and at the door.

Romero rode champions Personal Ensign and Go for Wand and won riding titles at Belmont Park, Delta Downs, Fair Grounds, Gulfstream Park, Hialeah Park, Jefferson Downs, Keeneland, Louisiana Downs, and Arlington Park.

Romero, who has been working as a jockey agent, retired from riding in 1999 with 4,294 career wins from 26,091 mounts and earnings of $75,264,198.
