For the third time this season, Oaklawn Park has increased purses, with the newest boost going into effect Saturday.

Oaklawn will raise purses for all claiming races by $500, with allowance and maiden special weight purses going up by $1,000.

"This increase indicates that we are sustaining our early momentum, and we have the chance to share the positive results with the horsemen, who are very much our partners in putting on the races," said Eric Jackson, the track's general manager.

Pari-mutuel handle is up 25 percent at the track compared to last year, with attendance up six percent, according to the track.

As expected, horsemen reacted favorably to the increase.

"This is a very positive development," said trainer Steve Wren. "The more money they give away, the more I like it."
