R.A.C.E. Fund to Hold Online Auction

The R.A.C.E. Fund launches its  2014 drive with an online auction on eBay starting June 21 at 8 p.m. ET and ending on June 28 at 8 p.m. to help raise funds for racehorse retirement and rescue.

Featured items include halters donated by Darley, Taylor Made, and Pauls Mill, and a VIP private tour of Three Chimneys stallion complex in Kentucky. The stallion halters to be auctioned are from graded stakes winner Street Cry  , sire of 2007 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Street Sense   and 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta; multiple graded stakes winner Forestry  , sire of 2011 Preakness (gr. I) winner Shackleford  ; and multiple graded stakes winner I Want Revenge  , who captured the 2009 Wood Memorial (gr. I).   

Other items to be auctioned are autographed pictures by Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel of his three Kentucky Derby victories on Street Sense (2007), Mine That Bird (2009), Super Saver   (2010), as well as Rachel Alexandra when she won the 2009 Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) and Preakness. Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg has also autographed a picture of Alysheba winning the 1988 Breeder's Cup Classic (gr. I). 

"We have some very exciting auction items this year and we would like to especially thank Roxanne Campbell for her tireless efforts as well as Calvin Borel, Jack Van Berg, John Murrell, Darley, Three Chimneys, Pauls Mill, and Taylor Made for their generous support by donating such valuable items to help us raise funds," said Marlene Murray, president of the R.A.C.E. Fund.

All proceeds will be used to help racehorses in need of retirement and rescue from slaughter. The auction proceeds will also benefit Promethia, a 32-year-old mare by Alydar who was rescued in May 2011 in Kentucky by the R.A.C.E. Fund.
