For the third time this season, Oaklawn Park has increased purses, which takes effect March 16. Beginning Saturday, all claiming purses will be raised by $500, while allowance and maiden special weights events will see purses jump by $1,000. ...Barretts Equine Limited May sale of 2-year-olds in training and will include more than 400 horses. The sale is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, May 13th and 14th. Included in the auction will be a 50-horse dispersal from the Estate of Bart D. Heller and 26 horses from the Cavanaugh Family Trust. The Heller Dispersal will include 21 horses of racing age, 14 2-year-olds in training and 15 yearlings, while the Cavanaugh Dispersal includes 18 horses of racing age and eight 2-year-olds in training. ... Forty-one students from colleges and universities across the country have been selected to participate in the annual Collegiate Sports Journalism Seminar at Churchill Downs. The seminar, now in its 11th year, will be held April 25-28, 2002, at Churchill Downs.
