Owner Spendthrift Farm said May 27 that Medal Count, a troubled eighth in the May 3 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) last time out, is being pointed to the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park June 7.

The Kentucky-bred 3-year-old colt by Dynaformer won the grade III Transylvania Stakes and finished second in the grade I Toyota Blue Grass Stakes, both on the Polytrack at Keeneland in April for trainer Dale Romans.

A field of 11 or 12 is possible for the Belmont, in which Steve Coburn and Perry Martin's California Chrome will shoot for the Triple Crown.

Spendthrift's Beholder, the 3-year-old filly champion of 2013 and 2-year-old filly champion of 2012, also is expected to compete on the June 7 program at Belmont in the Ogden Phipps Stakes (gr. I). Beholder, who won four grade I stakes last year, including the Breeders' Cup Distaff, won her 2014 debut in the Santa Lucia Stakes at Santa Anita Park.
