Should City Zip be entered into the $200,000 Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) as expected, he will attempt to become the first horse since Dehere in 1993 to sweep Saratoga’s three major stakes races for juveniles. City Zip has previously earned victories in Saratoga’s other graded 2-year-old stakes, the Sanford Stakes (gr. II) and Saratoga Special Stakes (gr. II).

City Zip is a Carson City colt trained by Linda Rice for owners Carl Bowling and Charles R. Thompson. Besides the two Saratoga stakes victories, City Zip also won the Tremont Stakes (gr. III) at Belmont Park and finished second to Gold Mover in the Kentucky Breeders’ Cup Stakes (gr. III). The latter while trained by James Chapman.

Other 2-year-old males expected for the seven-furlong Hopeful, won last year by High Yield, are Yonaguska, Macho Uno, Jacksrbetter, Evening Attire, Standard Speed, and What’s Up Doc. Possible starters, listed by the New York Racing Association, are T P Louie, Saint Verre, and Zone Judge.
