Some bounce. "When I saw she went :24 for the first quarter, that sealed it for me," said trainer Kenny McPeek. "On paper, there wasn't much that could go with her. I knew she was sharp. She's been eating great, knocking the bottom out of her feed tub."
Stage right, re-enter Bach. "Tony did such a good job with her today," Bach said. "He kept her throttled down and when I saw those fractions, I got really comfortable."
Like a debt collector with a baseball bat, Take Charge Lady makes an impression on your mind. Ask Robby Albarado. "I had no choice but to go out and try to press the six," the rider of Chamrousse said. "My filly ran a good race but we were never getting to the winner. Next time, I hope somebody else goes out with her because we can't."
The Bachs can enjoy their dream, but trainers like O'Callaghan have to face a more somber reality. "To put two races like this back to back is pretty impressive," O'Callaghan said of Take Charge Lady. "You gotta try and win but there's no damage done finishing third. With Take Charge Lady's kind of quality, you are not going to get much taking her on."
