Puck, who dead-heated for second is a recent allowance race at Gulfstream behind Nokoma, turned in a strong 6-furlong work in 1:12 4/5 for the March 16 Florida Derby.
"I thought it was an outstanding work," trainer Bill White said. "He appears to have come out of the work just fine, and we'll continue to look at him and see how he does over the next couple of days, but it looks like a good chance we'll enter him in the Florida Derby."
If the son of Mr. Greeley runs in the Florida Derby, he will be ridden by Cornelio Velasquez, who worked the horse this morning.
In other Florida Derby news, Shug McGaughey said Friday that Javier Castellano will fly down from New York to ride D'Coach in the $1 million race.
"He's doing well," McGaughey said. "He worked yesterday (a half in :49 3/5) and I was very satisfied with it. My plan is now to run in the Florida Derby. (Castellano) has ridden him in all his other races."
