The expected battle of the 'ladies' never materialized in the Silverbulletday Stakes (gr. III), the local prep race for Saturday's Fair Grounds Oaks (gr. II) won by Take Charge Lady, but Lake Lady will attempt to rebound from a fourth-place finish in that race in Saturday's $350,000 feature.
Though Lake Lady was sent off the 11-10 favorite in the Silverbulletday, that race was strictly a one lady show, with Take Charge Lady going wire to wire to win by 8 1/2 lengths in a track record tying performance. In the 1 1/16-mile Silverbulletday, Steve Asmussen-trained Lake Lady beat one horse home -- stablemate Academic Angel -- while finishing 11 lengths behind the winner. The daughter of the Deputy Minister stallion Salt Lake came into the Silverbulletday on a four-race winning streak, including two listed stakes victories at Fair Grounds. In the Oaks, Coast To Coast Racing Fund's Lake Lady will start from post-position two under regular rider Donnie Meche.
Anthony D'Amico will be back in the irons on Ken McPeek-trained Take Charge Lady after Jon Court filled in for the Silverbulletday as D'Amico was at Gulfstream Park to ride Harlan's Holiday in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. I). McPeek may consider running the daughter of Dehere (by Deputy Minister) against boys if she performs adequately on Saturday.
The second- and third-place finishers from the Silverbulletday -- Neil Howard-trained Charmed Gift and Niall O'Callaghan trainee Chamrousse, respectively -- return for the Oaks.
The field for the 1 1/16-mile Fair Grounds Oaks, from the rail out with jockeys, will consist of:
1 -- Persimmon Ridge, Eddie Martin Jr.
2 -- Lake Lady, Donnie Meche
3 -- Summer Delight, Jamie Theriot
4 -- Chamrousse, Robby Albarado
5 -- Charmed Gift, Craig Perret
6 -- Take Charge Lady, Anthony D'Amico
7 -- Lotta Rhythm, Corey Lanerie
8--That's Our Queen, Curt BorqueAll fillies to carry 121 pounds.
