The $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes, second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, will highlight a $1.9-million stakes schedule at Fort Erie Race Track this season. The live meet is set to begin April 27 at the Ontario, Canada, track located not far from the New York border.
The Prince of Wales, for 3-year-olds foaled in Canada, is scheduled for July 21. It will be run at 1 3/16 miles on the main track.
There are 21 stakes on the schedule, including seven that require a certain number of previous starts at Fort Erie. The stakes slate was announced in conjunction with the local Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
Another event for Canadian foals, the $250,000 Labatt Bison City Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles, is set for July 1. The race is the second leg of the Triple Tiara Series.
