Alberto-Culver Renews Breeders' Cup Sponsorship
Alberto-Culver has agreed to continue as the presenting sponsor of the $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. I), the same role it filled on the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships program the past two years.The company is headed by Leonard Lavin, the owner of Glen Hill Farm near Ocala, Fla. Alberto-Culver has been a Breeders' Cup sponsor for 14 years.In 1994, Alberto VO5 sponsored the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) the year it was won by Glen Hill's One Dreamer.Alberto-Culver has also agreed to increase its media commitment with television advertising on the Triple Crown Preview slated for April 13 at 3:30 p.m. (ET) on ESPN, and on the Breeders' Cup Preview show that will air Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m. (ET) on NBC.The 19th Breeders' Cup is slated for Oct. 26, 2002 at Arlington Park in Arlington Heights, Ill., a suburb of Chicago."We are very pleased that Alberto-Culver will continue its relationship with the World Thoroughbred Championships," said D.G. Van Clief, Jr., Breeders' Cup president and NTRA vice chairman. "It's especially gratifying that they will be with us this year when we host the Breeders' Cup for the first time in Chicago, the home base of Alberto-Culver." "We value the Breeders' Cup championships both for the high quality of the Thoroughbred racing and for its quality as an effective media vehicle," Lavin said. "The NTRA/Breeders' Cup plans for this season are very exciting and we are enthusiastic to again be a participating sponsor."
